It’s not enough to just hope for a better week. You need to plan for it, show up for it, and work for it. If you want this week to be different, your process needs to be different.
If we don’t change our habits, we won’t have a “new week”- just another week. Let’s focus on making this week intentional, impactful, and energizing.
Start by reflecting on the week you just finished. What went well, where did you fall short, and did you feel in control of your goals, or were you simply reacting to what came your way? Honest reflection helps you see patterns that you can improve.
Once you’ve taken stock, shift your attention to the week ahead. Set a vision for what you want to achieve – both at work and in your personal life. Think about how you want to serve students, how you want to show up in your conversations, and what personal goals you’ll prioritize outside of work.
Beyond that, focus on delivering above promise. If you tell a student you’ll follow up, don’t just send a quick email – add a resource or piece of advice that shows you’re invested in their success. Go beyond the minimum and you’ll build deeper trust with students and families.
Follow-through is a key part of success, so make sure you’re not leaving any loose ends. Think back to last week – did you forget to follow up on a conversation or leave an email unanswered? Reaching back out strengthens relationships and keeps you top of mind for students.
As your workload picks up, consider what you can delegate. Admissions work is demanding, and handing off routine tasks or automating certain processes will free up your time for meaningful connections.
Finally, prepare your mind for the unexpected. Admissions is full of surprises, but your success will depend on how well you control your effort, attitude, and follow-up. Even when things don’t go as planned, stay present, adjust your approach, and keep moving forward.
This week is a new opportunity to serve students and move closer to your goals. Let’s make it a great one!
